Tabula Smaragdina (Emerald Tablet) HERMETIC
cited in 7 emblems
The Tabula Smaragdina, or Emerald Tablet, is a brief Hermetic text attributed to Hermes Trismegistus that circulated widely in Latin translation from the twelfth century onward, encoding the foundational principle that operations in the macrocosm mirror those in the microcosm. De Jong (1969) demonstrates that Maier deliberately derives the mottos of Emblems I and II from the Tabula's dictum that the earth is the nurse of the philosophical child, establishing the Hermetic cosmological framework as the opening gesture of Atalanta Fugiens. These two emblems anchor the entire work in the tradition of Hermetic correspondence between celestial and terrestrial processes.
