HIEROGLYPHIC d6r · p.59
Emblematic Medallions (PATIENTIA / Anchor-Dolphin)
From the 1499 Aldine first edition (University of Seville copy, via Internet Archive)

Two circular medallion emblems. Top: PATIENTIA EST ORNAMENTVM CVSTO/DIA ET PROTECTIO VITAE. Bottom: anchor-and-dolphin with Greek motto ΑΕΙ ΣΠΕΥΔΕ ΒΡΑΔΕΩΣ.

In the Narrative

Two of the HP's most influential emblems. The patience motto and the anchor-dolphin (festina lente — 'hasten slowly') connect directly to the Aldine Press device. These images helped establish the European emblem tradition.
