Alchemical Hands in the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili

Jean Martin (d. 1553) produced the first French translation of the HP in 1546, adapting the text for a French courtly audience. His translation introduced the HP to the French cultural sphere, where it influenced garden design, festival culture, and the emblem tradition throughout the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
