This ‘etymological’ hand is also the only annotator in this study to identify the etymological
roots of the HP’s few epigrams in Hebrew. Although knowledge of Hebrew was sufficiently
widespread among humanists not to presuppose an ecclesiastical annotator, the use of
Hebrew does lend credibility to the proposal that this is the hand of a Jesuit.

Silver, were understood to be interconnected inverses of one another. Gold (Sol) is
masculine ‘in its height’ and feminine ‘in its depth’, while silver (Luna) is feminine in its
