[symbols visible — geometric/alchemical marks]
Left margin contains what appear to be alchemical ideograms or geometric symbols. Small drawn marks — not text, but symbolic notation
left_margin_center · Latin/Italian · LOW
[...] d[...] metallo [...] aqua [...]
'metallo' (metal) and 'aqua' (water) are key alchemical terms. This annotation may be glossing the printed text's references to materials in terms of alchemical processes
bottom · Latin/Italian · LOW
[...] alchimia [...]
The word 'alchimia' or similar appears visible at bottom left. If confirmed, this is an explicit alchemical label applied by a reader

Small geometric marks in left margin — possibly planetary or elemental symbols. Too small to identify confidently at this resolution

Scholarly Significance

Page 20 describes the monumental architecture and materials of Poliphilo's dream landscape. The alchemical annotations suggest Hand B was reading material descriptions (metals, water, stone) through a transmutation lens. The ideograms in the margin, if confirmed as alchemical symbols, would expand the known symbol inventory beyond the sites Russell documented. This page falls in the pyramid description section, contextually close to the mathematical annotations on page 14.

Note (possible_new_symbols): Ideograms in left margin may be alchemical symbols not yet documented. Resolution insufficient for definitive identification. Higher-resolution scan or magnification needed.
