Thesis 4>11

Apparatus (Farmer): 1486 cognitionem. Equipollentia

1486 punctuates 'cognitionem. Equipollentia'.

English

Granting the common view that God is reached by an act of intellect, I put forward two conclusions, the first being this: those who see the Word attain created things, by that same act by which they attain the divine essence, only in an elevated manner equivalent to formal knowledge of them — an equivalence of object, not of act.

Argued conditionally from within the 'common view' Pico elsewhere departs from (cf. 3>43); paired with 4>12 as its second conclusion.
