English
Whoever weighs closely the nine beatitudes set out in Matthew's Gospel will see them correspond, remarkably, to the group of nine numerations that lie beneath the first — the first being the unreachable abyss of the godhead.
'numeration' renders 'numeratio', Pico's own word for a sefirah. Matt. 5:1-12 gives the nine beatitudes; Farmer's note takes the 'inaccessible abyss of divinity' to be Keter ('crown'), the first sefirah, rather than Ein-Sof, God himself above the whole system (farmer1998:27768).
