Summary

Casaubon argues that the relation proves the reality of spirits while warning Christians against mistaking false spirits for angels of light. He rejects simple atheistic disbelief, discusses imposture and natural causes, and then insists that Dee's case cannot be dismissed as mere fancy. The preface is not Dee's voice, but it is a crucial seventeenth-century interpretation of Dee.
