English
By the numbers in triple proportion which Plato sets out in the Timaeus, in the triangle signifying the soul, we are warned how far one must proceed in numbering forms, following the nature of that which is the first form giving form to others. By the numbers in double proportion set out in the same place, we are warned that, once the two outer terms are fixed, the middle terms must be arranged according to the nature of that which is the middle term of the universe.
Farmer (farmer1998:22177) renders 'triplares'/'duplares' as 'cubic'/'square' numbers; I keep the proportional sense (triple/double proportion) of the Timaeus number series instead.
