Institutions
Abbey of Morigny
The Benedictine abbey near Étampes to which John was attached as monk and priest — the source of his identifying name. Beyond this basic fact of affiliation, the sources read for this portal do not treat the abbey's own institutional history in detail; that remains outside this portal's Phase 1 scope.
Rice University
Claire Fanger's current academic home, in the Department of Religion (Rewriting Magic, p.234).
Societas Magica
The scholarly society for the study of magic in premodern societies. Not independently verified for this portal beyond its role in the wider field this corpus belongs to; a separate finding from earlier research on this workspace's sibling MORIGNYGAME project noted Claire Fanger's association with the society (as treasurer, per that project's own research notes, not independently re-confirmed here).
University of Orléans
Where John earned his advanced degree in canon law — one of only two university subjects open to a professed monk (the other, theology, being restricted to Paris). Fanger's 2015 preface newly identifies Orléans, not her own earlier guess of Chartres, as the far more likely site of John's ars notoria experiments, given his documented presence there as a student and the university's specialization in law.
