Matter of the Greenwood Figure
The Sheriff of Nottingham
- Summary
- The constant antagonist, and a structural oddity: Robin is based in Barnsdale in Yorkshire in the Gest, which is not in the Sheriff of Nottingham's jurisdiction. David Crook's argument that the historical Robert Hod of York was pursued as Robert of Wetherby is one attempt to explain the mismatch.
