Matter of the Greenwood Document
Robin of Sherwood (ITV)
- Summary
- 26 episodes for HTV/Goldcrest. Robin is chosen by Herne the Hunter, an antlered forest god, and the series runs the legend as pagan mysticism against Norman and ecclesiastical oppression. Introduced a Saracen member of the band (Nasir) whom later versions - including Prince of Thieves' Azeem - copied without acknowledgement. Musically and visually the most imitated screen Robin.
- Date
- 1984-1986
- Author
- Richard Carpenter
- Note
- Fits the six-lens scheme least well of anything in the corpus, and is the strongest candidate for a seventh lens: the mystical or pagan Robin, invented 1984 and now widely assumed to be ancient.
