Matter of Britain Topic

Did the Grail have a Celtic prehistory?

Summary
Preiddeu Annwn's cauldron of the Otherworld, the Irish cauldron of the Dagda, and the horn of plenty in Welsh tradition have all been proposed as ancestors of Chretien's graal. Others hold that Chretien invented a serving dish and everything afterwards is literary elaboration. Juliette Wood is a good sceptical guide; the case is unfalsifiable in either direction.
