Porphyry of Tyre
Porphyry of Tyre (c. 234–c. 305 AD) was a Neoplatonic philosopher and the editor of Plotinus's Enneads.
Scholarly Significance
Porphyry represents the austere intellectualist wing of Neoplatonism. His Letter to Anebo famously criticized the magical and ritualistic practices of Egyptian priests, prompting Iamblichus's defense of theurgy in the De Mysteriis.
