Khalid ibn Yazid

Khalid ibn Yazid (d. 704) was an Umayyad prince legendary for being the first Muslim to study alchemy.

Scholarly Significance

While historically debated, the legend of Khalid commissioning Greek monks to translate alchemical texts from Greek and Coptic into Arabic marks the mythic foundation of the Arabic alchemical tradition.
