The system of elemental interactions between adjacent cards in a spread.
When cards appear next to each other in a spread, their elemental associations interact: Fire and Air are friendly (mutual strengthening), Water and Earth are friendly, Fire and Water are hostile (mutual weakening), Air and Earth are hostile, and the other two pairings are neutral. This system, derived from Golden Dawn practice, provides an additional interpretive layer beyond individual card meanings.
Significance
Elemental dignities are the mechanism by which cards in a spread influence each other — a structural analytical layer that most modern tarot apps completely ignore.
