Scratch Pad 44: The Philip K. Dick Special

Bruce Gillespie · 2001 · Fan Publications

Scratch Pad 44 is a fanzine written and published by Bruce Gillespie from Melbourne, Australia (59 Keele Street, Victoria 3066), based on the non-Mailing Comments section of The Great Cosmic Donut of Life No. 30, prepared for the June 2001 mailing of Acnestis, a British amateur press association (APA).

Gillespie is one of the most important figures in Australian science fiction fandom and a key Dick scholar. He founded and edited SF Commentary, one of the most significant critical fanzines in science fiction history, which published important early critical discussions of Dick's work. Scratch Pad represents Gillespie's more informal fan writing, produced for APA distribution. The connection to The Great Cosmic Donut of Life (another Gillespie publication) illustrates the complex ecosystem of fan publishing in which much early Dick criticism was developed.

This document is part of the archive's collection of fan publications that contributed to Dick's critical reception, particularly within Australian fandom where his work was championed early and consistently.
