Scanned pages 1 through 5 of Folder 18 of Philip K. Dick's Exegesis, dated August 1978. No OCR text layer is present. The Exegesis is Dick's monumental private philosophical journal, comprising thousands of handwritten and typed pages in which he attempted to understand and systematize the mystical experiences he underwent in February and March 1974.
Folder 18 dates from August 1978, approximately four and a half years after the initial 2-3-74 experiences. By this time Dick had been writing the Exegesis continuously, developing and revising his metaphysical framework through an extraordinary process of philosophical self-interrogation. These pages represent primary source material of the highest importance for Dick scholars, providing direct access to Dick's thinking in its raw, unedited form. The published Exegesis (edited by Pamela Jackson and Jonathan Lethem, 2011) contains only a fraction of the full manuscript.
