The Search for Philip K. Dick

Anne R. Dick · 1995 (Tachyon edition 2010) · Biographies

The Search for Philip K. Dick is a biographical memoir by Anne R. Dick, Philip's third wife, originally published in 1995 and reissued by Tachyon Publications (San Francisco) in a revised edition in 2009-2010. The first Tachyon edition (ISBN 978-1-61696-000-1) features cover art and design by Josh Beatman, interior design by John Coulthart, and photographs by Anne R. Dick herself.

Passages from Dick's writings are used by permission of the Philip K. Dick Testamentary Trust. The volume was edited by Jill Roberts under series editor Jacob Weisman and printed by Worzalla in the United States.

Anne Dick's memoir draws on her personal experiences living with Dick during the early 1960s, a formative period that encompassed the writing of The Man in the High Castle and other major works. The book also incorporates interviews with friends and associates to reconstruct Dick's life and character. As an intimate account from someone who shared Dick's daily life, the memoir offers perspectives unavailable in more conventional biographical treatments, including details of his domestic habits, interpersonal relationships, and the creative process behind his fiction.
