The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick, Volumes 1-5

Philip K. Dick · 1987 · Short Stories · PKD-authored

The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick, Volumes 1-5 is the complete five-volume omnibus edition published by Underwood-Miller in 1987, available in both slipcased (ISBN 0-88733-052-5) and trade (ISBN 0-88733-053-3) editions. At 2,275 pages, this is the definitive collection of Dick's short fiction across his entire career.

The five volumes are: Vol. 1 Beyond Lies the Wub (with a preface by Philip K. Dick, foreword by Steven Owen Godersky, and introduction by Roger Zelazny), Vol. 2 Second Variety, Vol. 3 The Father-Thing, Vol. 4 The Days of Perky Pat, and Vol. 5 The Little Black Box. Material in the preface derives from a letter by Dick to John Betancourt.

This omnibus represents the most comprehensive single publication of Dick's short fiction, gathering stories that were originally published across dozens of science fiction magazines during the 1950s and 1960s. The individual stories were copyrighted in their year of first publication, with copyrights renewed by Dick and his estate. Previously unpublished stories included in the set were copyrighted in 1987. The collection is essential for any serious study of Dick's development as a writer and his extraordinary range of speculative ideas.
