Various (including Philip K. Dick) · 2021 · Other

Despite its filename suggesting a Philip K. Dick anthology, this document is actually Best of If Magazine, Volume 1, a 2021 anthology compiled by Christopher Broschell collecting classic stories from If: Worlds of Science Fiction magazine. Dick's story "Exhibit Piece" appears in the table of contents alongside works by numerous other authors.

If magazine was a prominent American science fiction digest published from 1952 to 1974, winning the Hugo Award for Best Professional Magazine three years running (1966-1968). Other stories include J.F. Bone's "Assassin," along with works such as "The Six Fingers of Time," "Spawning Ground," and Kurt Vonnegut's "2BRO2B."

This volume is relevant to PKD research as a document of the publishing ecosystem in which Dick's short fiction appeared. If magazine, alongside Galaxy, The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, and Astounding, formed the core of the American SF magazine market that sustained Dick's career during the 1950s and 1960s.
