Matter of the Greenwood Figure

Walter Bower

Summary
Abbot of Inchcolm, continuator of Fordun's Scotichronicon (c. 1440). He places Robin in 1266, among the disinherited followers of Simon de Montfort after the baronial rebellion, and calls him a famous murderer whom 'the foolish populace' celebrate in song - while also telling the story of Robin refusing to leave mass when his enemies came.
