Matter of Britain Figure
Morgause
- Summary
- Arthur's half-sister, wife of King Lot, mother of Gawain, Gaheris, Agravain, Gareth - and, by Arthur, of Mordred. The incest is unknowing on both sides in Malory, which is precisely what makes the consequence unavoidable. Her murder by her own son Gaheris is one of the Morte's ugliest scenes.
