Arthur & Robin

Matter of Britain Figure

Geoffrey of Monmouth

Summary
Probably Welsh or Breton, working at Oxford, later bishop-elect of St Asaph (a see he seems never to have visited). Author of the Historia Regum Britanniae, the Prophetiae Merlini and the Vita Merlini. His contemporaries suspected him: William of Newburgh wrote that Geoffrey had made up everything about Arthur 'from an inordinate love of lying'.
