Gawain / Gwalchmai
- Summary
- The English favourite. Geoffrey's Walwanus is Arthur's nephew and champion; the French tradition demotes him as Lancelot rises; the alliterative English tradition (Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the alliterative Morte) restores him. In Malory his vendetta against Lancelot drives the final war.
